My Grand Balkan Tour (Pictures Included) (Read Before Going There!)

This was one of the best meals I had in the Balkans, at Kravice waterfalls, and so I figured I’d make it the featured image. Vegetarians beware, food choices are limited for you in this part of the world.

Being limited to the Schengen visa-zone means an American like me has to depart for a “less traditional” European country after three months are up. Generally, this means the Balkans or East Europe. A blessing in disguise. After I left Prague this year, I was forced to have a three month interlude into the former Yugoslavia.

My Prague Spring Ended Too Soon (A Photo Tour) (Days 60-150)

Under the steps of Prague Castle.

I’d heard great things about the Prague spring time. After I left Croatia in March, I migrated to the Czech Republic, formerly known as the Kingdom of Bohemia, and once also the jewel of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Pyongyang, the City of Secrets

The spirit of Pyongyang (“city in the flat-land”) has endured for thousands of years, and despite being continually shattered by warfare, it always springs from the ashes in some unique way. The form the city has taken in the last century is perhaps the most peculiar in its 5000 year history; it is now a city of forbidden sights – a showcase capitol of a socialist utopia that never quite achieved its promise. It is a city filled with lights, grandiose monuments, amazing breweries, high-quality restaurants, hard-working people, and dark secrets.

Faces of Pattaya 1

Pattaya, Thailand is an extremely unusual city, and thus contains a large amount of colorful characters. From bikers, to sex hungry professors ditching their wives in England, to people from across rural Thailand who are attempting to redefine themselves. I’ll try to do my best to represent some of these faces.

The Children of North Korea

My favorite part of North Korea was undoubtedly the children. I met many kids that I played with, from proper Pyongyang upper-class children, to kids from a countryside farming town. While we see many images in the media of the country raising havoc with military bravado, we often forget about the next generation of Koreans who have the power to perhaps change their country for the better. This North Korea photography gallery is an ode to them.

Support my work chronicling North Korea and other places in the world by becoming a citizen photo-journalist yourself and purchasing a Canon Rebel t3i from my affiliate store below, and I’ll make a tiny percentage of the sale. Buying a good DSLR was one of the best purchase decisions in my life. Even with a cheap lens, I still produce great images on the t3i because this professional grade camera has such a good sensor.
