The Children of North Korea

My favorite part of North Korea was undoubtedly the children. I met many kids that I played with, from proper Pyongyang upper-class children, to kids from a countryside farming town. While we see many images in the media of the country raising havoc with military bravado, we often forget about the next generation of Koreans who have the power to perhaps change their country for the better. This North Korea photography gallery is an ode to them.

Support my work chronicling North Korea and other places in the world by becoming a citizen photo-journalist yourself and purchasing a Canon Rebel t3i from my affiliate store below, and I’ll make a tiny percentage of the sale. Buying a good DSLR was one of the best purchase decisions in my life. Even with a cheap lens, I still produce great images on the t3i because this professional grade camera has such a good sensor.

  1. I really like your site! Objective and even handed.

I can’t agree more with you about the seemingly bizarre route most people take on the North Korea issue. It’s always so…. manic?

It seems as though looking at North Korea with anything but revulsion or adoration is met with criticism…sheesh.

  2. by the way great photos, I love your work documenting these moments. Whether scripted or not any interaction like these that we can have with North Koreans is a positive one.

  3. It’s hard to say… Most people are not that extreme about North Korea, at least not in person, but on the Internet people get all fired up and take extreme positions so they have an excuse to argue and fill a vapid hole in their lives.
